Alvin Ng rode a winning double at Sha Tin on his return to Hong Kong after completing a successful overseas placement and learning experience in both Australia and New Zealand. After riding 2 winners for Grafton trainer John Shelton, Ng transferred to prominent New Zealand trainer Lance Noble, subsequently winning 69 races in New Zealand.
Vincent Ho is friend and predecessor to Alvin Ng. They rode against each other in New Zealand, and Ng won the New Zealand Most Promising First Year Apprentice Award - as did Ho before him. Alvin Ng has been placed with trainer Dennis Yip in Hong Kong and is hoping that this positive beginning (2 wins and a placing from his first 5 rides) will be the catalyst to emulate the success of Vincent Ho who has enjoyed a rapid rise through the Hong Kong jockeys ranks. There can be no doubt that the outplacement program of Hong Kong apprentices is achieving very positive outcomes.
