Apache Cat retired
December 16th 2009 03:57
Apache Cat has been retired.
His unplaced effort at Sha Tin even more meritorious given that the injury suffered was a career ending small fracture to the base of the sesamoid.
Apache Cat will return from quarantine in Hong Kong and be retired to Legends at Oaklands Junction where he will be just as popular as he was on the racetrack.
With his distinctive baldy face Apache Cat became a crowd favourite winning eight Group 1 races and $4,087,134 in stakes.
There will be many tributes paid to Apache Cat in the coming days. Rather than add to that I will pay a photographic tribute with photographs from his career (noting the time before blinkers were added - and also the many jockeys to ride him).
The photograph of Apache Cat will remain on the banner of RacingWrite as a tribute to this unique and popular horse.
All photographs below were captured by Neil Murray who followed this horse closely through his career with great admiration - and captured some wonderful images of him that we can all enjoy.
