In a novel approach the latest inductee into the category of Australian Hall Of Fame Legend status will be decided by public vote.

Currently there are two Legends of Australian Racing with the inaugural appointment of Phar Lap - and last year with the induction of Bart Cummings. These two appointments so obvious as to defy any debate.
There are four nominations that racing enthusiasts have the option of voting for - right up until 9pm on Monday, August the 31st, when the winner is to be announced at the Australian Racehorse of the Year and Hall of Fame Dinner that same night.
Voting details are available from the RVL website.
“To reach Legend status in any sport is the ultimate compliment and in 2007 and 2008 we welcomed two giants of the turf in Phar Lap and Bart Cummings. This year, in a new approach to involve Australian racing fans, we introduce four racing icons for them to choose from.” - Bryan Martin, Chairman of the Australian Hall of Fame Selection Panel (as reported on the Racing Victoria Website).
The four candidates are:
Makybe Diva - only horse to have won three Melbourne Cups (2003-2005). Also winner Cox Plate, Australian Cup and BMW. Best stayer in the world 2005. Horse of the year 2004-2005, 2005-2006.
Carbine - Winner 33 of 43 starts - races late 1880s and early 1890s including 1890 Melbourne Cup, two Sydney Cups. Champion sire.
Scobie Breasley - Champion jockey Australia and England. Winner five Caulfield Cups and two English Derbies. Winner of four English Jockey Premierships.
Tommy Smith - Training legend. Winner of 34 Sydney training premierships. Trained the winners of 279 Group 1 races and two of the greats of the turf - Tulloch and Kingston Town.
If this was a WFA feature it would deserve a market. My odds would be (but don’t try and place a bet with me):
4 / 6 Makybe Diva
5 / 2 Scobie Breasley
5 / 1 Carbine & Tommy Smith
