Perhaps this surprise greater than winning a Cox Plate.

Retired and renowned racecaller Bryan Martin was today awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Australia Day honours list.
Bryan Martin retired following the Melbourne Spring Carnival of 2007 after a career spanning 36 years. He nominates as personal highlights two Cox Plates - those of 2003 and 2006 won by Fields Of Omagh. Martin was a part-owner of Foo so the classic race day calls all the more impressive for his professionalism and accuracy.
"It's a bit hard to believe. I'll probably get a letter in a month or so saying they got the wrong man." - Bryan Martin today, commenting on this award.
Martin said he had called races around the world and other career highlights included Better Loosen Up's win in the Japan Cup in 1990 and Makybe Diva's three consecutive Melbourne Cup victories in 2003-04-05.
Bryan Martin was appointed TVN's chief race caller in May 2005 after fulfilling the same role for Melbourne radio station Sport 927 since 1988. He is a director of the Australian Racing Museum and chairman of the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
Martin is also a founder of Living Legends, a home for retired racehorses on the outskirts of Melbourne where the public can get close to the champions of the past. Among the residents are Fields Of Omagh (naturally), Better Loosen Up and Hong Kong's former star sprinter, Australian-bred Silent Witness.
