Double Who?

The luminaries at Vinery Stud include such names as More Than Ready; Testa Rossa - and the champion US 3 year old Big Brown. And there is added depth with recent acquisitions such as Onemorenomore.

One of their unheralded stallions is the US bred Dubleo - a 2002 foaled bay/brown son of Southern Halo, out of the Secretariat mare Secret Red. His best performance on the racetrack was a win in the Woodbine Summer Stakes - Group Two at 1600 metres. He is closely related to Summer Bird (Champion 3 year old Colt in USA in 2009); Rubiano (Group One winner and leading US sire); Tapit (Group One winner and Champion US First Season Sire); Tap Your Heels and Chitoz. A pedigree full of stakes performers - and sires - in the first two generations.
Dubleo entered stud in Australia in 2005 and is at this time the sire of 50 progeny to race, with 22 individual winners and $640,000 in earnings. He stands at only $4,400. So far he would have flown under the radar of most with only minor race winners to his credit. But his profile is set to soar with his brilliant filly Dubleanny cutting a swathe through her opposition in the past month. Last Saturday at Caulfield she defeated a very talented field in the $90,000 Sportsbet .com.au Thing 1200m. Behind her was the very talented Peter Moody gelding Doubtful Jack; the equally talented filly Miss Octopussy; and the boom Mark Kavanagh Redoute’s Choice colt War Ends. Dubleanny came from last and broke 1.09.00 for the 1200 metre trip to win by 1.3 lengths. The plan was not to have her so far back - but the tempo and a less than brilliant beginning meant that this was the best option. How quickly can she reel her opposition in is emphasised by the fact that she ran her last 400 metres in 22.83 seconds. At her previous start she just as easily beat the fillies over 1100 metres at Flemington - with Miss Octopussy chasing her home (this time 2nd) again.
This Mick Price trained filly was a $65,000 purchase at the 2008 Magic Millions Sale. Price now has the Listed Creswick Stakes over 1200 metres at Flemington on June 12th programmed as her next start. This appears likely to be the first of many black type races that this exciting filly will contest.
