The Listed Hollylodge Crockett Stakes (1200 metres) at Moonee Valley was an early season opportunity for the 3 year old fillies to gain precious black type for their pedigrees - thus rapidly enhancing their residual value.

The seven horse field had its mixture of daughters of racing royalty, and the daughters of the lesser-lights of racing.
Second placed Cristallo is a daughter of the ever-successful sire Testa Rossa who stands at Vinery for $44,000 in 2010.
Curtana, the Peter Moody trained disappointing favourite who would finish 4th is a daughter of Exceed And Excel who stands at Darley for $66,000.
In 5th position was her stablemate Miss Gai Flyer, a daughter of Flying Spur who stands at Arrowfield for $55,000.
Which brings us, in a roundabout way, to the winner Dutchy’s Lass. This daughter of little known sire Dutch Harry posted her third career victory from 7 starts. Dutchy’s Lass began quickly and full use of her early speed was utilised by jockey Michael Rodd, soon having all of her opposition off the bit and pressured just to keep in touch. There would be no mid-race pressure or late emerging challenge from the pack, and Dutchy’s Lass would be eased down to record a 2.5 length victory in a race time that would have seen her defeat the colts & gelding in the McKenzie Stakes (won by highly regarded Moody trained colt Anacheeva) by 9 lengths. Her win was a domination over her rivals - although Moonee Valley (with the rail out) can be considered to favour horses who lead or race right on the speed.
Trainer of Dutchy's Lass Shaun Dwyer owns both sire and dam of the filly. Her sire being the universally unknown and neglected Dutch Harry, stakes-placed on the racetrack, but greeted with no real commercial interest when retired to stud. Dutch Harry served very few (a handful) of mares in his five seasons at stud and was not returned to the Stud Book in 2009. Dutchy’s Lass is his only foal to have graced the racetrack, and his only winner. A stakeswinner.
And Dutch Harry’s last known service fee?
(a nominal) One dollar.
Black-type.
Spend a million.
Spend a dollar.
The beauty and mystery of horseracing.
