Floramour

Moe trainer Peter Gelagotis does not have a large team of horses. The advantages of a boutique operation is the opportunity to be hands on with individual horses and work on all aspects of the animal, from fitness to animal psychology.

His recent flagbearer has been the durable, wet-track appreciating, Savquaw, a winner of over $200,000. Recently Savquaw won the Moe Cup - though disappointingly for the hometown trainer this meeting was transferred to Cranbourne because of excessive rain. The race was still run on a track rated as Heavy 10 - the worst possible rating for a track.
But now overshadowing Savquaw is the recent acquisition, the very talented More Than Ready 4 year old mare, Floramour. Since Peter has taken over training duties from Matthew Upton, after a sale and transfer, this (always) talented mare has blossomed from a provincial performer with pretensions of city class, to be a multiple metropolitan - and Listed Race - winner.
Earlier this campaign she ran 4th to subsequent Goodwood Handicap winner Velocitea in the Listed JRA Stakes. She would follow this with a win at Morphettville in the Listed Manihi Classic over 1200 metres. Subsequently she ran an unlucky 3rd against the males - beaten by the highly regarded Eight Bills at Sandown Hillside.
Last Saturday this impressive mare was the top rated speed horse by Speedratings in the Peter Nash Handicap (1200 metres at Caulfield). Well ridden by Chris Symons she won impressively at the surprisingly good odds of $4.60.
Training horses - as a business - can be about value adding. With Floramour now a stakeswinning daughter of Champion Sire More Than Ready, Peter Gelagotis (and his team) have certainly added value to a very astute purchase.
