Jamie Mott - a win in the city

Neil Murray was at Flemington last Saturday and was pleased to witness the popular, and very talented jockey, Jamie Mott, return to the winners list on a metropolitan track. He posted this report and photographs:
Jamie Mott - a win in the city
Jockey Jamie Mott had a very successful and promising apprenticeship and early riding career, coming fifth in the 2007-2008 jockey premiership. But things went off the rails for him in late 2008 and 2009 when he suffered a four month suspension for a positive cocaine result followed by a six month suspension for a positive amphetamine result. Jamie is a very tall jockey at 182 cm and has struggled to manage his riding weight. He fell foul of the stewards again in 2009 suffering fines for failing to attend a number of meetings, for deceiving the clerk of scales and stewards on one occasion and for weighing in light on one occasion.
Jamie has returned to riding with marked success this season on country tracks. He currently heads the country jockey premiership with 44 wins. But his luck this season hasn't been good in the city; that is until last Saturday's meeting at Flemington. In the last race on the card - the Smithfield Handicap over 1400 metres - Jamie booted home the Danny O'Brien trained, At The Heads, to get back on the city win list and give O'Brien a training treble for the day. Let's hope this talented jockey's career is back on track with his latest success.
