Lizard's Desire - Singapore Airlines Intenational Cup
May 19th 2010 05:12
South African Lizard’s Desire relished the soft conditions - and fast pace set by Jolie’s Shinju - to avenge his narrow defeat in the Dubai World Cup by Gloria De Campeao and win the Group One Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000 metres). The margin on this occasion slightly more than the nose he was defeated by in Dubai.

Gloria De Campeao could not repeat his 2009 heroics and win the Singapore Airlines International Cup on consecutive occasions. Brazilian jockey Bruno Reis was having his first ride on Gloria De Campeao - as well as being a novice at the track. Given the narrow margin, perhaps with regular jockey Tiago Pereira aboard the result may have been different. In a post race interview Reis advised that although Gloria De Campeao settled well for the first half of the trip, at the 1000 metres he began to get keen and want to charge after the pacemaker Jolie’s Shinju. Leading the field up to the pacemaker off such a solid pace left him a sitting shot for any late challenge.
Presvis - 2nd behind Gloria De Campeao in 2009 - disappointed to finish 5th. He was another who did not relish the soft conditions - and throwing a shoe early in the race only compounded the difficulties he has with shifting ground.
Winning jockey Kevin Shea
