Horse racing is much more than an excuse for gambling. It is a love for the beauty, grace and speed of the horse. It can also be an intellectual battle of examining competing facts and trying to formulate the future from results of the past. In some ways it is an investigation, as performed by an eager detective. And in other ways it can be the thrill of a crossword puzzle, with multiple possible responses, but ultimately only one correct answer. It is a thing of beauty as much as it is a matter of commerce. I have been involved with horse racing in both practical and intellectual ways. From time spent as an apprentice jockey, to later the research of bloodlines in the multimillion dollar world of thoroughbred breeding and sales. And for the past twelve years I have provided speedrating information to the racing industry and public through my company: Speedratings (www.speedratings.com.au).

Massoni

August 16th 2011 05:04
Massoni is an impressive 4 year old Bianconi gelding who won his 2nd race from 3 career starts when he was successful at Caulfield at the end of July.

After winning a Cranbourne Maiden over 1200 metres on a slow rated track the Tony Noonan trained bay gelding stepped up to Saturday grade and ran out a 3/4 of a length winner of the Steve Walsh Handicap (1400 metres). He defeated the last-start Caulfield winner Josimar (Craig Williams), with Langridge Street (Lisa Cropp) in third position. Ridden by Dean Yendall, Massoni had no luck and was posted three wide for most of the race before still proving too good for his rivals.

Massoni is a half-brother to the Group Two placed Belscenica who was 2nd in the 2010 Moonee Valley Stock Stakes (1600 metres) behind Avienus, with Lady Lynette finishing 3rd. Their dam Bellonic (by Redding) was a stakes-winner of the Listed South Australian St Leger (2400 metres).

Still considered a work in progress by trainer Noonan, Massoni was immediately tipped out for a brief spell before being prepared to resume for races later in the late Spring.
