Trained by Byron Cozamanis - ridden by Billy Egan - the bay gelding was not fancied in betting but ran home a comfortable winner by 3/4 of a length from the Peter Snowden trained fellow debutant, Belisama. These two dominating the 1000 metre event (though both coming from off the speed) with the 3rd horse, Infinite Fortune, 5 lengths from the winner.
Spurn, the dam of Repousser, is a stakes-winning daughter of Flying Spur, with wins in the G3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m at Caulfield) and the G2 Sunline Stakes (1600 metres at Moonee Valley).
