Singapore Guineas: Better Than Ever
May 15th 2010 03:08
Singapore's champion 3 year old Better Than Ever easily accounted for his rivals with an untouched 4 3/4 length victory in the Group One Singapore Guineas over 1600 metres. Better Than Ever covered the 1600m in 1 minute 34.23 seconds - just outside Jolie’s Shinju’s course record. And this after jockey Saimee reported that Better Than Ever stargazed coming down the straight, being unaccustomed to night racing and looking at all the lights in the grandstand.

As you can see in the photographs by Neil Murray, Better Than Ever is a free sweating horse, and the humidity of Singapore is something that the visiting horses will have to contend with in the International races that are coming up later this weekend. Neil is on assignment in Singapore and will be providing a photographic coverage of all major events.
Jockey Saimee has never really extended Better Than Ever in any of his nine consecutive victories - and trainer Laurie Laxon considers Better Than Ever to be one of the best horses he has ever trained. In the short term Better Than Ever will get out to a staying distance in races in Singapore. But in the long term it is expected that Better Than Ever will travel to other countries if his domination in Singapore continues once he leaves 3 year old company and takes on the older horses.
