Snitza Snitzel
July 23rd 2011 21:57
Snitza - a bay son of Snitzel - was successful at Caulfield on the 16th of June. Trained by Rick Hore-Lacy, this was his 4th win this (long) campaign. Ridden aggressively by Craig Newitt Snitza led all the way and defied all challenges to run out a 3.8 length winner of the JRA Handicap over 2000 metres. He defeated a trio of promising middle-distance/staying 3 years olds in: Mr Bisset (2nd); Lopov (3rd); and You Think So (4th).
The sire Snitzel is most often associated with precocious sprinters, but Snitza defies that impression with his toughness and stamina. Snitza was passed in at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sales when the reserve of $30,000 was not met. Breeder Bill Cockram elected to keep and race the horse along with trainer Rick Hore-Lacy (others have since been included in the ownership).
See here in these photos by Neil Murray, Snitza is in the prominent orange colours of Hore-Lace, with the dislodged orange cap presenting an unusual image.
