The Hong Kong Jockey Club recently granted Australian jockey, Tye Angland, a licence to ride in Hong Kong for four months. In his very first ride at Sha Tin, Tye started with a bang. He rode the Derek Cruz trained Global Win to victory over 1200 metres on the dirt track. To make the win even more meritorious, it was Tye's first ride on dirt, which didn't seem to present any problems for him.
Later in the day, Tye put in another good ride on the Cruz trained, Flying Colours. This time, though, it was Brett Doyle who took the honours on Mr Celerity by a length from Flying Colours.
Tye now joins the current crop of Australian jockeys making their marks in Hong Kong, including Brett Prebble, Darren Beadman and Zac Purton.
