On Saturday, 30th April at Caulfield, six of the eight races were sponsored by Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation. The Foundation aims to promote and increase the rate of organ and tissue donation in Australia.
Zaidee Turner was only seven years old when she died suddenly in 2004 from a brain haemorrhage . She was the youngest person to have registered in that year as an organ donor. Her organs and tissues were used in transplants to save the lives of others.
To promote and support the Foundation's efforts, jockeys wore rainbow coloured silks and officials and commentators wore rainbow coloured bow ties. Here are several photos of the sixth race - the Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation Cup over 1600 metres- showing some of the action, and the rainbow colours. The Ken Keys trained Boom 'N' Zoom, ridden by Lincoln Coffey, stormed home to win the race by just under a length.
At the 150 metre mark. Hawk's Bay ridden by Andrew Stead leads Oronero ridden by Dean Yendall
Top: apprentice, Jarrod Fry, wearing the rainbow colours on the way to the start on unplaced Cheerful Jury
